Carr Inducted into College Football Hall of Fame

At the fundraiser for Mott Children's Hospital over the weekend, Brian Griese revealed that former Michigan head football coach Lloyd Carr will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame this year.  Carr joins such U-M coaching legends as Fielding H. Yost, Fritz Crisler and Bo Schembechler in the Hall.

During his 13 year career at the helm of the Maize and Blue, Carr went 122-40, won five Big Ten titles and one National Championship.  Off the field, he raised millions of dollars for Mott and was adored by his players (even without free tattoos or too-good-to-be-true car deals).

So while some in the M blogosphere will probably mark this occasion with a really elaborate pie chart post blaming Carr for Rich Rod's troubles, the country's economic woes and the crash of the Navy SEAL helicopter during the Bin Laden raid, we here at the MZone wish to congratulate this class act and great football coach.

It rained most of the weekend....I blame Lloyd Carr...

Just kidding. I liked Carr. He did something that Bo never did. So how can you not like the guy?

Lloyd's record speaks for itself. It's how you want to look at that record that largely dictates what it says to you.

He deserves this, I don't care what anyone else says. That winning percentage and an N.C. devoid violations. That's Hall of Fame no matter how you look at it.

Crashed the super secret stealth never before seen Navy Seal helicopter...

Seriously look up that story. Someone screwed the pooch there.

He deserves it even if he should have retired 5 years sooner. I'd still accept him as coach now though probably.

I always liked Carr and wish he would not have retired when he did. I would gladly have taken three more years of 8-4 or 9-3 seasons with the bowl game streak not broken, no hint of NCAA violations and even three more losses to tosu instead of the cluster f%#$ we had with the "offensive genius". I blame Bill Martin.

Congrats to Coach Carr. Go Blue!

well, i doubt that you'll find anyone who doesn't think the last 3 years were disappointing and wishes that Boater Billy had hired someone else other than R2.

i'm not sure that equates into wishing for another 3 years of Lloyd Carr.
